Unit 9 Muddiest Point

I am a Mac user, and wondering what program to use to write my HTML code for Assignment 6 since I don't have "Notepad" on my computer. Is it the "TextEdit" application?

  1. Caitlin, if you find the TextEdit app doesn't fulfill your needs for Assignment 6, there's a program called Mac Notepad from Apimac that you can download for free at cnet. The link is http://download.cnet.com/Mac-Notepad/3000-2351_4-24553.html. Hopefully that's helpful.

  2. Caitlin,
I had the same problem and I didn't want to have to download something just yet, so I found these instructions:

"I can assure you that you can save HTML files using TextEdit. The secret is to choose "Make Plain Text" from the Format menu before you try to save the file. Then, when you go to save it, specify ".html" as the filename suffix and choose "Don't Append" when TextEdit helpfully asks if you want to add the .txt extension or not. Do those two steps (which you only have to do when it's a brand new document, btw) and you'll be fine."

It works fine if you want to see what you've done so far, but you should save another copy as rtf for when you want to make changes to your code. Because opening the .html file again will not show any of your code.

I think I'm going to have to download something soon, so if you have any suggestions let me know. Thanks.

  3. Thanks to both of you!

TK, I came across that same page and was able to just do something simple and it worked. I'll let you know if I find anything else!
